gen-AI use… ever.
imperfection is human
In a time of rampant AI slop, I couldn’t find a witchy coloring book that came from human hands. So, I made one myself. Any errors you find in this book are my own, and you can contact me if you find any that affect your enjoyment of the book! I’ll fix them and send you a printable page.
Beyond the Book
Check out coloring inspiration, a digital book of reference photos used to draw it, and time-lapse videos of the making of and coloring of the book! Plus, new printable freebies to add to your coloring fun.

Meet the Maker
Sarah E. Steinberg is an illustrator and designer in Portland, Oregon. She’s been drawing and coloring ever since “the 1900s”, as her son refers to her youth in the 90s. For her midlife crisis, she decided to follow her dreams of becoming a children’s book illustrator, and is working on a variety of graphic novel and picture book projects, along with the Life, Death, and Shiny Objects Coloring series. After crayons, she likes playing with watercolor paints, inks, and other materials that add surprises to the artistic process.

Never AI!
I’ve drawn every piece of art in this book… because I LOVE to draw. I also love to come up with ideas, and am inspired by exploring the Pacific Northwest, from my neighborhood to the larger bioregion.
Dark Cottagecore Vibe
I’m inspired by witchy imagery that explores the cycles of life and death, seasonality, growth and decay.
Imperfection
Nature isn’t perfect – and neither is this book! If you find any errors that make it harder to enjoy your coloring, let me know so I can fix them!
Shiny Objects
Like a crow, I’m drawn to shiny little trinkets and treasures. Every page has something shiny to make your crow-brain happy.
Life and Death
Some coloring content online makes coloring seem like life and death! Stressful palette picking! Yikes! Despite the title, I don’t believe in high-stakes coloring. It’s just a piece of paper- not life or death.
an inside look
Lesser-loved Creatures
Spooky season or not, the lesser loved creatures of the world are fascinating to me. Feel free to cross pages right out if you’ve got one you can’t handle!
Snakes
TW: there are two snakes in this book!
Insects
The centipede, my least favorite, is also based on one I found in my house.
Raccoons
Who doesn’t love a trash-panda? Love these little dudes.
Spiders
TW: Definitely some spiders in this book.
